General Job Requirements:

The Preservation Society of Newport County is seeking a full-time Store Manager at The Breakers, reporting to the Director of Retail Sales. The Breakers store is the flagship store of the Newport Mansions serving over 400,000 visitors annually with gross sales of $2 million dollars. The Breaker’s Store Manager is a key senior member of the Retail Team. The Breaker's store is open during Museum hours, seven days per week. The Manager will work 40 hours per week, including a mixture of week and weekend days, and some holidays. Daily work times range between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm, depending on visitor attendance. Certain special events may require occasional evening or holiday scheduling. The Store Manager at The Breakers is a sales driven, position, tasked with sales goals and Operating Budgets. The Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store and leading a team of sales and support staff (4- 8 depending on season) to ensure the store runs efficiently, promote a positive work environment with open communication, encouraging teamwork, offering excellent customer service, and contributes to the financial success of the museum. Direct and supervise Museum store staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations. Develop and maintain a monthly schedule for staff. Manage the Store Budget to achieve annual sales and financial goals; keep the Director informed of Store performance and challenges and opportunities to meet/ exceed Budget. Implement cross-training of staff and assistant manager to always maintain productivity. Ensure adequate personnel is on hand to provide outstanding customer service. Ensure sales staff coverage on the floor with flow of traffic offering great customer service creating a positive and collaborative work environment. Manage all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability. Initiate ways to promote the product lines and service within the store. Maintain proper inventory levels, ensure stock levels maintained, implement for books apparel and unique gifts through reordering of merchandise. Work with distribution center team to ensure timely deliveries including reorders and transfers. Ensure all merchandise has been received and is properly tagged before going onto selling floor. Execute markdowns, price revisions and the re-pricing of merchandise as needed. Work with Director of Retail Sales and Operations Manager on promotions for special events and promotions. Ensure the store is visually appealing and maintain visual displays through showcasing the Museum's brand in accordance with the Museum's brand Director's guidance. Accurately operate cash registers and credit card machines. Training provided on specialized software. Ensure accuracy in cash handling procedures and sales paperwork submitted. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures through regular store management and staff meetings, store walk-through and audits, etc. Ensure the store is clean and presentable, workstations are stocked and organized for efficient operation. Perform other related duties as required or directed. Follow prescribed safety, health rules, regulations, and practices.

The desirable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Associates Degree with a minimum five years of documented business sales and supervisory experience. Experience managing a sale and/or customer service team. Minimum of one year of customer service and cash handling experience preferred. Strong leadership and team management skills. Computer skills mandatory. Knowledge of inventory management and analysis. Ability to manage and maintain perspective and balance in the workplace. Able to multitask and establish priorities. Maintain a positive attitude and focus on customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment always portraying a professional appearance. Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift up to 20+ lbs. occasionally. Ability to operate telephone, credit card reader and POS cash register.
