Pastry Prep & Finisher North Smithfield Wright's Dairy Farm, Inc

Introduction:
The Pastry Prep & Finisher is responsible for the day-to-day finishing and quality execution of pastries and cakes to support Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery retail store sales and wholesale demand. This role focuses on preparing, decorating, and finishing bakery products according to established recipes, quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and daily production plans.
This position requires strong attention to detail, consistency, and flexibility in a fast-paced production environment. The Pastry Prep & Finisher is expected to work as a team player, foster a positive work environment, and carry out the Core Values of Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Production
  • Prepare, assemble, and finish a variety of pastries and baked goods including cupcakes, eclairs, cake slices, cream pastries, and bars
  • Frost, fill, trim, and decorate cakes using various icings and finishes (buttercream, whipped cream, ganache, fruit, chocolate, etc.)
  • Maintain consistent portioning, finishing techniques, and product appearance
  • Follow daily production plans while adjusting to changing business needs
  • Restock ingredients and supplies to support continuous workflow
  • Assist with shift-end cleaning and closing responsibilities
  • Meet productivity and quality expectations as established by department leadership

Quality & Food Safety:

  • Follow all SOPs and escalate questions or inconsistencies when needed
  • Monitor product quality and communicate concerns to shift leaders or managers
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace using “clean-as-you-go” practices
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including allergen controls
  • Adhere to all dress code, grooming, and food safety requirements, including:
    • Hair must be fully restrained at all times (hair net or approved covering)
    • No dangling jewelry permitted
    • No artificial nails or nail polish allowed
    • Clean uniform required each shift
    • Slip-resistant footwear required

Teamwork & Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with team members across departments to maintain production flow
  • Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Stay informed through company communications, meetings, and updates
  • Utilize company systems for scheduling, payroll, and internal communication
  • Represent Wright’s brand with professionalism and a positive attitude

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Travel:
No travel is expected for this position

Position Type/Expected Work Hours:

  • Full-time (30+ hours per week)
  • Must be available for weekends, early mornings, and/or evenings
  • Required availability during peak holiday periods (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and surrounding weeks)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1–2 years of bakery, pastry, or food production experience preferred but not required
  • Basic math and measuring skills
  • Ability to follow recipes, production lists, and SOPs
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet quality standards consistently
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance required
  • Food Safety Certification preferred

  • While performing this role, the employee is regularly required to:
    • Stand and walk for extended periods (8–10 hours per shift)
    • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist frequently
    • Perform repetitive hand and wrist movements (piping, frosting, trimming, decorating)
    • Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds independently; team lift for heavier items
    • Push/pull racks, carts, and trays in shared production spaces
    • Adhere to PPE requirements

Work environment includes:

  • Exposure to food allergens including dairy, nuts, soy, and gluten
  • Airborne particles such as flour, sugar, and powdered ingredients
  • Temperature variations (ovens, coolers, freezers)
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Wet or slippery surfaces (slip-resistant footwear required)
